The first song on side two of the McCartney LP, Oo You began as an improvised piece recorded at McCartney's home studio at 7 Cavendish Avenue, London.
Initially an instrumental, Paul McCartney added lyrics shortly before Oo You was taken to Morgan Studios in London.
The first three tracks were recorded at home as an instrument that might someday become a song. This, like MAN WE WAS LONELY, was given lyrics one day after lunch, just before we left for Morgan Studios, where it was finished that afternoon.Vocals, electric guitar, tambourine, cow bell, and aerosol spray were added at Morgan, and it was mixed there.
On the mix, tape echo was used to move feedback from guitar from one side to another.
At Morgan the first task was to transfer the original four-track tape to an eight-track machine. Overdubs were added, and during the mixing session the guitar feedback was panned from channel to channel and tape echo was applied.
