Thanks so much for this – the french voice is indeed my father Pierre Denis Le Seve. It is 3 years since he died and at last i can listen to the song without crying (sometimes!) I am so proud that his voice is captured forever in this great song and he has his place in pop history.

Pierre was our neighbour for over 30 years. Yesterday was his 2nd anniversary of death and his wife Kathryn and son Patrick came to London to lay flowers on his grave and then visited us for an hour.

The French voice is a friend of mine, Pierre Le Sève, of the BBC’s French language service, who died in April 2009.

In the song, he can be heard giving tourist information, in his regular programme called “Le Flash Touristique”. He said he’d had quite a bit of trouble getting paid for his contribution, and that eventually he received a cheque for £5 or £6…
